XCOM 2 was a fun but wildly imperfect game. Without sacrificing a few things, you're just making making a marginally different LW1.

I get where you're coming from, I just personally disagree with it from a design standpoint. A type of decision LW1 never forced on you, but never really needed to. Stops you from thinking strategically and deciding if you REALLY need that many guys on the op vs running with a small guerrilla strike force.

Allowing the player to have max squad size at all times takes away that idea. When you flip the script and have to manage multiple simultaneous ops, while making the player feel like they're running a rag tag guerilla group, some things would need changing. You're a well funded international org on the defense. I mean the larger squad size, and gameplay catering to it, fits EU/EW. Yea, but thematically/tactically that fits very well. The higher manned ops are more likely if you have great intel from a haven and these are still rare and you have to forgo supplies to get the intel. Early game is balanced around 4-man squads with an occasional 5 or 6 man infiltration here and there. While you may take larger squads, the infiltration mechanic will penalize you and bring the pain. So I'm a little confused as to your issue with LW2s squad size? Considering 8 - 10 was the original Long War's squad sizes. The starting squad size in LW2 is up to 8 troops, and maxes out at 10 vs vanilla XCOM 2 being 4 to 6.

The original Long War mod corrected this in Xcom EW with both increased squad sizes, new gear and more aliens for balance. To fix this you had to run a bigger squad mod with a more aliens mod for balance. trying out two custom class mods that came out for LW2, Vanguard (possibly some sort of distraction/tank gunner class)В and Raider (shotgun/grenadier) Custom class mods such as Samurai (allegedly may be usable), Perk Pack Remix: Gadgeteer (a rare medic custom class)В and Rogue, which is getting worked on - a stealthy, flanking scout class that may be fitted with the targeting item snipers rarely use. Grimy's Loot (RPG-style special item drops I think research guy is too slow in LW2 to be reliable to unlock loot boxes for Shotgun of a Thousand Truths or epic Kevlar armor though) Potentials (troops have personality boosts/problems, making the squad thing even more interesting) Heal Grenade Updated (cures almost everything)

Free rookie is probably the jackpot in LW2. Numeric Health Display - better UI for showing armor, health and shielding on units.ДЇlawless - Do a mission without casualties, get rewards. Gremlins Grab Loot - Does what it says, and it's useful with all the junk dropping off ADVENT and aliens now. Perfect Information - For the stats nerds and some mods. LW2 Tactical Suppressors - Adds stealth kill ambush ability for suppressors, giving them more use than just cutting time out of your infiltration. The Axe Mod - Adds axes for more serious, risky melee damage. Katana Pack Reloaded - Adds pretty Japanese-style swords with various abilities. (Last I checked: avoid taking the C4 skill as there's a bug.) Also has a touch of hacking as they can sneak to the objective. SpecOps Class - Adds a stealthy class that can ambush aliens with throwing knives, rush and attack with custom combat knives or flank with SMGs or short-range sniper rifle skills. SpecOps Combat Knives - Adds stealthy-killВ throwing knives as a grenade substitute for undetectable kills, and combat knives for sneaky melee attacks. True Concealment - Makes timers MUCH easier as it starts ticking off when you go loud or are detected, rather than when you first start the mission. Here's my non-cosmetic mod list at the moment for Long War 2 that work: I'd also hesitate to use the Avenger Events mods, as they caused some serious bugs in the campaign I've been running. I'm a bit shocked they put A Better Advent, as I've had trouble with that mod before LW2.

From what I've read on mod chatter, XCOM 2's Long War 2 is expected to have another patch soon so modders such as Grimy's Loot and custom classes are going to wait a few weeks before coming out with updates.
